I'm excited to be playing in the inaugural Speedgolf Texas Pro-Am this week! Let's take a look at what I'll have in the bag to handle the challenging layout at Wolfdancer Golf Club.
Driver
Titleist 915 D3, 9.5 Deg, Fujikura Motore Speeder VC 6.2 Tour Spec S Flex shaft
I'm putting the driver back in play after using the 3w at the New York Speedgolf Open and Speedgolf World Championships. Wolfdancer is one of the longest Speedgolf courses we'll play and distance could be a factor.
Hybrid
Titleist 915H, 17.5 deg, same shaft as driver
Irons
5 iron | 8 iron - Titleist AP2, Modus3 Tour 120 X Flex shaft
5-iron could become a 6-iron based on par 3 setups this week.
Wedge
Titleist Vokey SM 5 M Grind 54/10, KBS Wedge 120 shaft
Considered going with an extra wedge in lieu of the hybrid but have not played enough rounds with that setup to use in completion yet.
Putter
Odyssey White Hot 2 Ball (35'')
The Odyssey putter makes a return to competition after a three year hiatus. The flagstick let me down a little at Worlds so it's time to make a change to a trusted old friend!
Ball
Srixon Z Star XV Yellow
I have found the Srixon to be the best combo of feel and visibility for Speedgolf. There are other balls that are better in each category but I am pleased with the combo in this ball.
Bag
Sun Mountain Speedgolf
Picking the right equipment for Speedgolf is far more art than science. Overall my club selection has stayed relatively consistent through my Speedgolf career, but we are always tinkering to find the right mix.
Check back tomorrow for our next WITB with another professional Speedgolfer playing this weekend at the inaugural Speedgolf Texas Pro-Am on December 31st at Wolfdancer Golf Course at Hyatt Lost Pines Resort in South Texas.
